- Before purchasing the tickets, you want to make sure everyone in your party is able to go on the specific dates. One of the last things you want is to find out after you ordered to tickets that one member of the party can't go until a day later. Canceling and changing flight details can be difficult and frusterating to say the least.
- After you know everyone will be able to travel on the specific dates, you will want to wait until all your important documentation comes in. For international flights you do not want to book a flight if your passport has not been requested. Processing a passport can take weeks, if not months. In addition, some countries require a visa before you are allowed entrance. Apply for the visa and do not purchase the tickets until after the visa has been acquired. Some countries have stricter rules about admittance and acquiring a visa, so you will not want to purchase anything until the visa has gone through.
- Once you have all your important documentation and know everyone can travel, purchase the tickets as quickly as possible. The sooner the tickets are purchased the better the price of the tickets. Demand plays a part in pricing, so try to book as soon as possible. There are also better days to fly than others. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are typically the cheapest days to fly (Wednesday is generally the cheapest). If there is any way to book the flight on these days you may save yourself a few extra dollars.
