Greek for 'Saint Napa', the town's patron saint, Ayia Napa is an exciting place to visit, where a rich local history is met today by clubbers who choose this as their top, must-visit destination.
Located in the far eastern end of Cyprus, close to the UK Sovereign Base, Ayia Napa is a popular destination for clubbing on the island, having in recent years developed from its former role as a popular resort for family visitors on their summer holidays to become a dance party capital along the lines of Ibiza.
Every summer visitors from all over come, particularly followers of London's UK Garage music scene.
You will never be very far away from British tourists who have come out to escape and enjoy their time in the sunshine.
It is a fun-loving place where the people come to escape and dance the night away every single evening, all the way into the small hours of the morning.
By day they head to the beaches and sun themselves on the quintessentially Mediterranean sandy beaches.
Ayia Napa has always been popular on account of its sublime beaches where you can still go to while away the hours in the sun, gazing upon the crystal clear blue water.
If you so desire you could spend whole days eating, drinking, and sunning yourself on the beaches.
Nissi Beach is well-known for the visitors who come here: beauties showing themselves off in the midday sun.
Around four kilometres from the centre of the local town, it becomes remarkably busy and quickly turns into a buzzing, exciting place in the summer.
BBC Radio 1 has even staged its beach parties here.
Elsewhere, slightly further afield, you'll find Makronisos Beach, less busy and geared more towards the family visitors who flock to the area.
Grecian Bay meanwhile is close to the centre of Ayia Napa, a beautiful sandy beach stretching along the three coves to the east of the small fishing harbour.
It is a charming, quieter place where many head to relax and enjoy their time on the island.
The island is of course famous - indeed notorious - for its nightlife.
The area becomes something of a British base in the summer, when tourists from the country flock to Ayia Napa to dance, drink and be merry.
The Square is the obvious first port of call to which to head if you want to enjoy the nightlife.
There is plenty packed into the area, and lots of great places to go and drink including bars such as Bedrock, the Castle Club and Ice.
So in all, Ayia Napa is a wonderful destination with cheap holidays available for anyone who wants to head abroad and enjoy themselves on their trip abroad.
