Keeping the Senior Out of Your Senior Years

When people hit a certain age in life, it seems like all the health they so took for granted disappears.
Instead, they find themselves with a host of issues brought on by aging, a less-active lifestyle, and the wrong diet.
Their eyesight and hearing starts to go, their cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight begin to climb, and they find themselves spending a great deal of time with a doctor and taking a plethora of medications to bring everything back into control.
The good news is that there are steps you can take to lessen the negative effects of aging.
Start by drinking plenty of water.
Too many seniors are victims of dehydration just because they fail to put enough fluids into their bodies.
If you've ever suffered from constipation, dehydration may well be the cause.
The human body is about 70% water, and it needs to replaced constantly if all of your systems are going to work properly.
Therefore, keep water with you at all times, and make a point of drinking more of it.
The amounts and types of foods you put into your body are another critical element of retaining your health.
Most folks slow down as they reach their senior years, and without all the activity they used to know, they can easily overeat just by doing what they've always done.
If you aren't as active, the calories you eat need to be cut back accordingly in order to avoid weight gain.
Avoid processed and fried foods in favor of leafy greens, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits.
Regular exercise is a must for the welfare of both body and mind.
Many negative health conditions, such as fatigue, high cholesterol, and obesity can result due to a lack of appropriate exercise.
This doesn't mean you have to do hours of aerobics every day.
Taking a walk is just as good.
In addition, you need to continue with normal activities, such as cooking, cleaning, or gardening.
Do what you can to remain calm and stress-free.
Too much anxiety can trigger many ill effects.
Avoid situations that you know will upset you.
Play quiet music or spend time reading while alone.
Enjoy the company of friends.
All these things will build your self-confidence and positive thinking.
Laughter can always make a situation better, so make sure to keep laughter as a part of your life.
Watch TV shows or movies that give you a lift, spend time in activities you love, or be with upbeat people.
When you're in a happy mood, everything in life will just seem better to you.
