In the Asia Pacific region, education qualification exaggeration is a huge issue.  According to our own study for the last 3 years, 15% of job candidate profiles fall into the category of education exaggeration.  Here are some of the common cases:

1. Buying a fake university degree from a fake university in North America
2. Printing off a fake university degree of a top tier university in Europe
3. Claiming to be a graduate of a top tier university in North America but never went there
4. Claiming to be a graduate of a local university but indeed attended and failed

HR professionals face the issues of not able to work due midnight to verify degrees completed overseas.  The truth is that these unqualified job candidates understand HR professionals' limitations.  Thus, these unqualified job candidates were able move from job to job without the required education qualifications.

Many HR professionals might even raise the question of whether education qualification should really count in the recruitment process after finding out that the job candidates do not have the degrees.  One thing that is clear and must be remembered is that if a degree is not required for the job, why bother putting that requirement on the job description in the first place? It is very important to level the playing field for the ones who actually have the qualification to compete fairly.

Thus, as a HR professional, take the time to do the education verification.  If you can't do it yourself, assign to another team member or simply seek for external assistance.
