Secrets of Postpartum Depression

Have you been diagnosed with postpartum depression? There is nothing wrong with you if you have; this affects many new moms.
It is commonly referred to as the "baby blues" and it happens because the hormones suddenly change from what they were when you were pregnant.
Many women find that the symptoms only last a week or so but there will be others that find it continues for longer.
Postpartum Depression Symptoms The main symptoms of postpartum depression are very similar to normal depression; the difference is that it does not last as long.
The new mom will feel exhausted and upset or angry a lot of the time.
Another symptom is that the new mom will want to stay away from her new baby and will constantly push the responsibility onto someone else.
The main feeling for a new mom is that she's inadequate in her job and she'll be extremely anxious.
This can resort into panic attacks, which is the reason new moms prefer to be away from the new baby, in the fear of harming it.
Taking Care of Yourself If you've been diagnosed with postpartum depression, there are high chances that you haven't taken care of yourself and have gone back into your old routine.
You need to be careful because you will need your rest too; if you don't get your rest, there are chances that you'll start to resent your baby.
If you find that you're struggling with shaking the depression, it's worth talking to someone about it.
Sometimes, a friend can help but there are other times that you'll need to rely on a doctor or psychologist to help you.
This can take time and some women will not find that it's working.
Finding Ways to Help with Postpartum Depression While antidepressants can be prescribed, many doctors are starting to look into alternative ways to help their patients with any type of depression.
One option is to use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which is a psychotherapy technique.
The process is a mixture of acupuncture and psychology, where the mom focuses on a certain problem while tapping on acupuncture points is done.
Many believe that EFT helps because there is a distraction of the negative thoughts that constantly surround postpartum depression.
Of course, the negativity is not just dismissed; it's talked about by someone willing to listen to the new mom, which can really help to move past the feelings.
