The ministry is the most common career path for those who hold the MDiv degree. This can mean a pastorship in which you minister to your own congregation. Other careers in the ministry include associate pastor, senior pastor, youth minister, music minister, or chaplain in settings such as hospitals, colleges and universities, or the military. - Some MDiv recipients choose nonprofit or social justice work.god's children image by Leticia Wilson from Fotolia.com
MDiv recipients who do not wish to enter the ministry can find rich careers in counseling. A master of divinity prepares you for work as a family counselor. Other MDiv recipients work with at-risk youth through group homes or social service agencies. Jobs in pastoral care in hospital and hospice settings are also open to those with the MDiv. - The MDiv prepares you to teach at the college level.college campus image by Nick Alexander from Fotolia.com
A master of divinity also prepares you to teach theology and religion. Teaching jobs in secondary schools, particularly parochial schools, are also an option. Careers in higher education, such as dean of student life, especially at religious-affiliated institutions, may appeal to those holding a MDiv. These positions sometimes combine pastoral or ministerial duties with educational duties, and are sometimes purely teaching or administrative.
