- 1). Write the elevation and azimuth (lateral) settings for the FTA satellite that you want to access using the Dish Network Dish 500 on a piece of paper--there are websites that provide this information once you provide details as to your location.
- 2). Stand next to the Dish 500, facing in the same direction as that of the front of the dish. Hold a compass in front of you. Rotate the compass until the tip of the needle lines up with the "0" mark on its scale.
- 3). Loosen the knob on the side of the bracket that controls azimuth positioning holding the Dish 500.
- 4). Move the dish back and forth slowly until the LNB (low noise block amplifier) pole attached to the front of the dish points to the azimuth setting that was written down. The compass is used to help determine this position.
- 5). Tighten the knob controlling the azimuth positioning with your fingers. Tighten the knob further with the jaws of a pliers.
- 6). Loosen the knob on the side of the bracket controlling elevation positioning.
- 7). Raise and lower the dish slowly until the indicator mark on the back of the dish lines up with the elevation setting that was written down. The compass again is being used to help determine this position.
- 8). Tighten the knob controlling the elevation positioning with your fingers. Tighten the knob further with the jaws of a pliers.
