Unique Adventure

Since this island nation is surrounded by the Indian Ocean, fishing plays an important part of its economy. A sizeable population of the region is involved in this business. Their every day catch is either sent to the local markets or packed to be exported to different countries. These people go into the ocean in their boats and steamers, and try their luck to get a good catch. A chance to experience this whole episode of fishing can be exciting for any tourist, and as a result, many of these fishermen take visitors with them giving them an opportunity to see the whole process.

Another aspect of it that has attracted many visitors in recent years has been deep sea fishing, which is carried out in the waters near Bentota, which located at a distance of about 70 km the capital city of Colombo. Barracuda, jack fish, white and red snappers, sharks and tuna are few varieties found in the region. Fishermen start their day early in the morning from the Malubanna jetty, and sail of the coast and go deep into the ocean. They spend about 4 to five hours and during this time, they throw their nets in the waters and wait to get a good catch. Watching them doing it is an experience in itself. At the same time, enjoying the cool breeze and witnessing the sun rising from the horizon can be a special moment for anyone.

Off Season Adventure

During the off season, visitors can try the same thing at lagoons, which is carried out at the mouth of various rivers and further into the upstream. Cat fish, snappers, mangrove jacks and mullet are varieties that are found at these places. This activity also provides an opportunity to witness wildlife and behold some beautiful scenery. On Sri Lanka vacation tours, activities like these are an ideal way to relax and unwind, and do something that is rarely available anywhere else. Click pictures of these unique adventures and share them with friends and family, and cherish the time spend at this splendid destination in the Asian continent. The best time to visit this island is from November to April, it being the driest season and ideal for fishing adventures.
