Looking For Work John sat at his desk scrolling through the list of job openings that appeared on his computer screen.
He didn't think it would be this hard getting a job.
He had been a supervisor for the last 20 years in a medium-sized manufacturing company.
When he first heard that the plant was closing he wasn't worried, He figured with his experience and knowledge he would be able to get a job right away.
8 months later John was getting frustrated.
Most of the jobs that he found that looked promising at first appearance, were low paying jobs making less than half of what he had made in his previous employment.
Limited Help He went to the local unemployment agency and they sent him out to jobs at fast food restaurants for minimum wage where he competed with thousands of teen-age kids looking for a summer job.
The government did not seem to have to have the resources or job openings for mid-level jobs in his industry.
He was getting older and he had not kept up on the newer skills needed for those tech savvy companies that seemed to be hiring.
He thought he would retire comfortably from his previous job in a few years and help raise his grandkids.
John didn't know what to do, most of the jobs that paid what he was asking for required skills in computers and other things that he had never heard of.
He was getting depressed and to the point of giving up on even looking for a job.
He would have to watch his money, but with his savings, he could make it for a few years until the economy grew stronger and the job market became friendlier.
John is like thousands of people in the world that would like to work, but can't find a job.
There is hope for us.
Computers and the Internet have opened up a lot of opportunities for people looking for work.
Online Universities and Training If you have been on the internet searching for a job, then you know about these opportunities to further your education.
If you have extra savings or you are collecting unemployment, you can go back to school.
The government will offer you training most times in other fields of study not related to what you were doing.
You may decide to go this route to take advantage of getting paid while going to school.
I don't think that the government will pay you to get a bachelor's degree, but there may be grants available for those lucky few that fit into their qualifications.
Start A Home Business There are thousands of home business opportunities available for those looking to start-up their own business.
You will have to decide what you are going to do that is unique to the market place or has a high demand.
95% of start-up businesses fail within the first 5 years, so it is demanding and hard work.
Your capital investment will be high, you will have to advertise and get your name out there to get clients.
Some people have re-financed their home and bought a franchise business.
Their cost was high, but if they did their research, they could succeed where others have failed.
Be Your Own Boss You can decide to be your boss with little capital investment, these opportunities are more in line with John's place in the job market.
He has skills, experience and a powerful motivation to work.
Relationship Marketing or Network Marketing is just what John is looking for.
He can set his own hours to work and still have time for his grandchildren.
The only things he needs to decide are how much he wants to invest and what type of product or service he wants to market.
He can become a "Representative" of one of the many companies out there looking to market their product line.
If you are High tech savvy and wish to help others by sharing the newest technological items out there with your family and friends.
Or, you could share products that are environmentally friendly and toxic free.
John would need to decide what fits him the best and start making goals to become successful as a new "Representative".
The good thing is that these companies have extensive training and support to help you succeed.
Because if you make money, so do they.
