- 1). Purchase or cut wooden dowels to 6 inches. These will serve as your broom handles.
- 2). Cut the straw so it's about 2 inches long. Create little bundles of the straw, fanning it out until you have enough to create the broom size you want. Each little bundle will make one broom.
- 3). Dab hot glue on one side of the wooden dowel, where you will attach the straw.
- 4). Hold the smaller end of your straw bundle between your thumb and finger to hold it together. Place the straw on the wooden dowel, overlapping the straw with 1/2 inch to 1 inch of the wooden dowel. Firmly press the straw bundle against the glue on the dowel.
- 5). Place a small rubber band over the straw to help secure it in place.
- 6). Wrap your ribbon around the dowel, covering the overlapping straw. You can cover the entire dowel (handle) or only the portion of where the straw and dowel meet. Cut the ribbon to size.
- 7). Tie a favor tag to the broom using the ribbon, or place the brooms inside of cellophane bags, tying them shut with ribbon and favor tags.
