- A "green" drink refers to a juice made from mixed green vegetables, either pureed in a blender, squeezed or strained. There are also green smoothies, which blend vegetables with fruit and sometimes yogurt or sorbet. There are even green cocktails-- some are eco-friendly, some are green in hue, and some fit both categories.
- There are thousands of pre-made green drinks that you can buy. Some of the most popular brands include Naked Juice, Odwalla, Dole, and Trader Joe's.
- Vegetables often found in green drinks include cucumber, kale, celery, spinach, onion, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes, lettuce (iceberg, red and Romaine), garlic, chili, cabbage, bok choy, watercress, sprouts, wheat grass, chard and barley grass.
Some of the fruits used in green drinks are apple, pear, grapes, bananas, dates, strawberries, lemon, lime, papaya, persimmon, pineapple, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, peach, nectarine, plum and apricot.
Herbs and spices in green drinks include parsley, basil, dill, mint, ginger and cilantro. - Oprah Winfrey says she starts every day with this custom-made green drink: Blend three celery stalks, two cucumbers, an apple (cored), one chunk of fresh ginger and a cup of fresh spinach until they're smooth. This mixture makes about two servings.
- Use organic champagne--Serge Faust is a brand that uses grapes that are organic-certified in France--and organic orange juice to create a green Mimosa. You can also create a watermelon green-tini. This recipe calls for locally grown watermelon, organic mint, organic champagne and a Purus vodka, which uses organic wheat from Italy's Lombardy region. Or you can sip on a Midori sour, made with green melon liqueur and sour mix, which has a rich yellow-green hue.
