One of the most valuable skills that you should learn as a designer or developer is touch typing. Being able to touch type increases productivity and success. It is one of the best investments that you could make.

Typing with one or two fingers on each hand is a slow process. It takes up a lot of time and energy in order to complete a particular typing task. Being able to learn how to touch type increases the speed of your typing, and the quicker that you can type, the quicker you can finish and move on to the next task. Being able to type quickly greatly increases your productivity and lets you accomplish more tasks efficiently. It frees up a lot of time which you can spend doing other things.

Touch typing is a simple process. Instead of looking at the key board to type, look at the screen instead. Position your index fingers by the lumps found in the letters F and J.  Simply learn the position of the keys thru practice, your body soon remembers which finger moves to hit that key.

After a while the process becomes automatic that you think of the word and it appears on the screen. Touch typing is an enjoyable way to work out your tasks. It is less tiring and you can accomplish your tasks more quickly and efficiently. It also makes spotting and correcting errors much faster. It also frees your mind from the mechanicals of what you are doing, making it easier to concentrate on the task at hand. It also requires less movement, making low impact on the wrists and hands which help prevent repetitive strain injury. The catch in learning how to touch type is this, you have to stop typing in the way that you have always done it. That means that you will be much slower for a few months, but will increase your speed significantly after.

There is only one way to learn, you need to practice diligently and commit yourself to typing properly. There are some softwares that are helpful in learning how to type properly. They make it a more fun experience and it teaches you the proper fingers to use in a particular key. It also helps you memorize they keyboard. Starting out in small significant steps you would be able to master the keyboard.
