A Look Inside from Your Guide:

I was impressed immediately by the spaciousness of our two-bedroom, bi-level Little Harbor Marina Suite.

The Wentworth by the Sea re-opened its doors in May of 2003, but the 18 suites in the separate "Ship Building" weren't completed until late fall, so our visit in December of 2003 provided us with an opportunity to be among the first to stay in these fabulous accommodations. With condominium styling and all of the comforts of a "home away from home," the Little Harbor Marina Suites are an ideal choice for extended stay vacations, whether you need room for a family or a private retreat for a honeymoon or romantic escape.

There's something very soothing about looking out over the water, and even though it was too cold to linger on our balcony in December, the living area's large glass doors framed beautiful views that we enjoyed along with the warmth and flicker of the gas fireplace.

Guests who opt for these suites have the best of all worlds--great views and a degree of privacy, with all of the amenities of the restored grand hotel, including the spa and indoor pool, just a short walk up hill. The hotel's location on New Castle Island near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, makes it an ideal home base from which to make day trips to Maine and Boston and within New Hampshire.

Our suite had two bathrooms including a master bath with a deep tub--no whirlpool jets, unfortunately, but a comfortable place for a hot soak. Like the rooms in the hotel, the beds in the suites are piled high with a down comforter and pillows that are so fluffy and heavenly that I had trouble forcing myself out of this warm nest each morning.

If you're traveling with little ones, my toddler gives the Little Harbor Marina Suites a thumbs up, too. Not only did she relish climbing the flight of stairs, the hotel's location at the corner of New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts meant we picked up three PBS stations. The result was toddler nirvana--all Sesame Street all the time.
