How to Install a Wall Mount 50" TV

    • 1). Choose a mounting kit that is rated for at least a 50-inch television. Kits can be purchased online or at many big-box retailers and range from approximately $50 to $500 as of 2010, depending on features.

    • 2). Determine where you would like to place your television, including how high on the wall you would like to mount it.

    • 3). Use a stud finder to find the wall studs in the area that you would like to mount the television. Most stud finders have an indicator light that will flash or fully illuminate when a stud is detected. Mark the stud locations with a pencil, as you will anchor the television into the studs.

    • 4). Attach the television mounting brackets to the rear of the television, aligning the plates with the pre-existing screw holes on the rear of the television. Use the screws included with the mounting kit to secure the bracket to the television.

    • 5). Place the paper mounting template on the wall and secure it with masking tape, if your mounting kit includes a template. Be sure to align the template with the studs. If your kit does not include a mounting template, hold the mounting bracket up to the wall and use a carpenter's level to ensure that it is level. Mark the spots where you will be drilling the guide holes.

    • 6). Drill the guide holes using the drill-bit size specified in the mounting kit's instruction manual.

    • 7). Place the mounting bracket against the wall and use a screwdriver to put the screws in the stud, securing the bracket in place.

    • 8). Remove the stand from the 50-inch television. The stand may have to be unscrewed or unlatched, depending on the model of the television.

    • 9). Connect all the A/V cables to the television, including the power cable.

    • 10

Place the television on the mount by sliding the mounting arms connected to the television onto the wall mount. Tighten the security screws that cover the arms if your mount has security screws.
