- 1). Place the string winder over the E string tuning peg. Turn the winder clockwise to loosen the string.
- 2). Pull the loosened string through the hole, or groove, in the tuning peg to remove it from the head of the guitar.
- 3). Pull the other end of the string through the bridge to completely remove it from the guitar.
- 4). Take the new string and run it through the empty slot in the guitar's bridge.
- 5). Pull the string until it is straight across the length of the fingerboard. While keeping the string straight, make a kink by bending the string away from the guitar approximately 1 inch above the E string tuning peg.
- 6). Run the string through the hole, or groove, in the E string tuning peg until it reaches the kink. Run the string from the inside of the guitar, and pull it away from the guitar through the tuning peg.
- 7). Make a second kink in the E string toward the top of the guitar, locking the string in place. These kinks will allow the string to settle quicker and stay in tune longer.
- 8). Using the string winder, tighten the string until the tuner reads E, or 1, depending on the brand of tuner.
- 9). Remove the excess string with the wire cutters. Make sure to cut the string as close to the tuning peg as possible to avoid cutting a finger later on.
