- To purchase an upgrade, call the Delta reservations line at 800-221-1212 or go to www.delta.com to make changes to your existing reservation. If you make an upgrade prior to the date of your flight, your upgrade may incur a one-time change fee that will be based on the rules of the original fare class purchased to change your flight as well as the difference in cost between the fare class you purchased and the upgraded ticket. The one-time change fees range from $50 to $350 depending on the type of fare class you purchased.
For same-day upgrades, you have the option of paying a small fee and upgrading on a standby basis if the flight has availability. The cost of your same-day upgrade will depend on two primary factors: the fare class of your ticket and the route and mileage of your flight. Upgrades start at $50 for flights up to 500 miles and range up to $350 for flights over 3,000 miles. - If you have enough miles, you can simply go online and redeem your miles for an upgrade. The number of miles necessary for an upgrade depends on the class of ticket purchased as well as your destination. Upgrades begin at 5,000 miles.
- Delta Medallion members are afforded special benefits, such as unlimited complimentary upgrades, subject to availability and certain restrictions. If you do not have enough miles to qualify for Medallion membership on your own, you may purchase one of these memberships for an annual fee based on the membership level you seek. Annual fees for Medallion membership are as follows: Platinum Medallion---$300, Gold Medallion---$350, Silver Medallion---$450 and General Medallion Membership---$450.
If you are a Medallion member, you may request a one-class upgrade at the time you purchase your ticket. If you make your request after your ticket purchase, your request will be subject to Delta's automated upgrade process that bases upgrades on an algorithm based on availability, time requested, type of ticket purchased and your level in the Skymiles program.
