When I was growing up, my father regaled me a story of a father who loved his two sons so much.
Unfortunately, although he was rich, his two sons were very lazy.
He was about to die and so he called them on the side of the bed and told them about treasure, hidden somewhere in his large tract of land.
Of course there was no treasure, but the sons toiled and toiled.
Though they did not 'find' it, they had already tilled the whole land and turned it fruitful.
I was reading the book of Matthew the other day when I stumbled upon the story of the hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44-45).
It talks about the kingdom of God and compares it to a treasure that is hidden somewhere in a field.
Let us look at the story and see whether we can learn something about the kingdom of God-and whether we can be partakers of the kingdom.
Think of a treasure hidden somewhere in a field.
A fool will never get it no matter how long he lives.
He will always look around the field and only see bare rocks, weeds and thorns.
He will therefore waste in poverty and misery in the midst of treasure.
The clever man will find it, hide it away and sell all he has to buy the land...
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.
When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field"Matthew 13:44.
The clever man will buy the land as we have seen.
Many will probably look and say:" see, the land he has bought is no good.
It is full of rocks, dry and will not bear any crops".
The clever man would probably get almost for free as the owner would be thinking about disposing the 'worthless land' to any willing buyer.
No prizes for appreciating what this man will get from the land once he buys it.
A wise decision has been made by this man.
He is like a wise investor who sees opportunities where others do not see.
Jesus once said:" He who hath ears to hear, let him hear"-King James Version.
Are you like the man who bought the land? Or you have ears but will not hear? The kingdom of God Is like this treasure.
It will not be revealed to all and sundry.
So let us be good listeners and doers of the Word for there lies the fortune, secrets and mysteries about the kingdom of God.
