How to Receive Payment for a Child While on Disability

    • 1). Gather all the information you will need, such as the social security numbers for the disabled parent and all children applying for assistance. Provide the full names and birth dates of each child.

    • 2). Apply for Social Security payment for the child of a disabled parent in person at your local Social Security office, online at socialsecurity.gov or by calling 800-772-1213, which is Social Security's national number.

    • 3). Complete all requested paperwork and provide your application along with original birth and marriage certificates to the Social Security representative handling your application, whether in person or by mail.

    • 4). Report the birth of a child and remarriage of a disabled parent. Immediately report if a child drops out of school, gets married or is convicted of a crime.
