Roman Blinds For The Home

There are so many choices when it comes to choosing what window coverings you would like in your home. There is the popular venetian blinds, vertical blinds and plantation shutters. But then there are other choices like the panel glide blinds or the roman blinds. Many people are not aware of what roman blinds are, so here here is everything you need to know about Roman Blinds.
These type of blinds are primarily made of fabric which is designed to fold into pleats when the blinds are raised. Some people may know them as Roman shades or fabric shades however, roman blinds is also an acceptable name for them. These are becoming more popular in interior design schemes and patterns due to the ease of customisation. It is possible to have roman window blinds made to suit your individual requirements.
In the making or roman blinds, slats are usually mounted into the back of a solid fabric panel. These slats are connected to cords for operating the blinds. To operate the blinds, you simply pull on the cord. When the cord is operated the slate are pulled together, and the blind raises with the material folding into pleats.
There are a large range of fabrics available for these blinds, once again, making customisation a simple process. In most cases roman blinds are built with fabrics made from hemp, cotton, silk and linen. With the customers changing requirements however, synthetic composite materials are now available. Roman Blinds are often only considered for interior use, but their use is not limited to just the inside use. People have been known to use roman window coverings to control the temperature and amount of light they allow in while they relax on their patio. If you live in a hot climate and enjoy the outdoors but dislike getting sunburnt, Roman blinds could be a great choice. You can choose to have them specially made for the outdoors using fabrics that are more durable and can withstand heat without fading.
There are a number of factors to keep in mind when you are choosing your blinds. Some of these include the colour and pattern of the fabric and the texture. You may also wish to consider things such as UV resistance, maintenance and the level of opacity. Everybody has a different need so it's important to think about what you need and not just go and choose blinds because they look good in a friend's house.
Aesthetically, it's important to think about where you want the slats placed. The size of the pleats on your blinds will fluctuate depending on how close the slats are to each other. When the slats are closer, the pleats are smaller and block less of the area of the window then it would when the slats are further apart and the blinds are open.
It's possible to purchase roman blinds in three different styles: Blockout, sunscreen and translucent.
The Blockout Blinds variety protects your home from the sun, and ensures your home stays warm during winter. Block out blinds are used to block daylight from entering the home and are often chosen for the bedroom, nursery or entertainment rooms.
The Sunscreen Blinds allow you to enjoy your home without worrying too much about the glare from sunlight. They filter out both heat and UV rays, while maintaining your view of the outside world. These blinds however, do not provide privacy in the home when your room is lit up at night.
The final option is the Translucent Blinds. These blinds provide you with privacy while allowing a filtered level of daylight into the home. These blinds are perfect for living areas.
