- 1). Obtain an Ethernet of suitable length. You can buy one from just a few feet in length to more than 50 feet.
- 2). Unplug the modem and router. Turn off any computers connected to the network.
- 3). Insert one end of the Ethernet cord into the Ethernet port in the back of the router. There are four ports grouped together of similar shape and size. Insert the other end into the same port on the computer.
- 4). Plug in the modem. Wait for modem to lock the connection. The lights on the front change when the connection becomes secure.
- 5). Plug in the router and turn on the computer. Most computers automatically detect wired connections, such as the one you created with the Ethernet cord. You can connect up to four computer using this method and countless wireless capable computers.
