How to Replace a Motorola Z3 LCD

    • 1). Lay out your clean cloth onto a tabletop. This will be your work space.

    • 2). Turn your Motorola Z3 off. Remove the back plastic cover and SIM card underneath.

    • 3). Loosen and remove the six screws around the perimeter of the back plate with your T4 screwdriver. Set these screws aside.

    • 4). Using your fingertips, grab the back plastic housing that is now loose and begin to open it up. When you have opened a crack large enough, place your mobile phone opening tool between the housing and the rest of the phone. Move your mobile phone opening tool around the housing's perimeter, popping out any retaining clips holding the housing in place. Set aside the housing when free.

    • 5). Slide your Motorola Z3 open.

    • 6). Hold the cell phone with the top LCD housing in one hand and the lower housing in another. Carefully push up on the lower housing until it unclips partially from the top housing. Grab the top of the lower housing and apply enough force to unclip the top corners of the lower housing. Free the ribbon connecting the top and lower housings, and then set the lower housing aside.

    • 7). Loosen and remove the two screws from the top of the LCD housing with your T4 screwdriver. Set them aside.

    • 8). Pull up on the metal sliding plate to lift the LCD screen housing away from the top plastic housing. When it lifts, slide the LCD housing forward and away from the top housing. Use your tweezers to remove the ribbon connecting the LCD screen and top housing.

    • 9). Loosen and remove the two screws at the bottom of the LCD screen with your T4 screwdriver. Set them aside.

    • 10

Flip open the LCD screen with your tweezers. Unclip the ribbon connected to the bottom of the LCD screen.

    • 11

Use your tweezers to slide the LCD locking mechanism, which looks like a small black spot that is revealed when you flip open the LCD screen. Flip the LCD housing over and pull up on the arm connected to the locking mechanism with your tweezers.

    • 12

Slide the metal sliding piece off of the LCD housing. Carefully peel off the ribbon underneath.

    • 13

Lift the LCD screen away from the housing. Pull carefully so the slider ribbon and earpiece are not damaged. These pieces will lift away with the LCD screen.

    • 14

Place your replacement LCD screen into the LCD housing, sliding the earpiece and slider ribbon into their respective spots. Secure the ribbon clip at the LCD screen's hinge.

    • 15

Slide the metal sliding piece back onto the LCD housing. Thread the slider ribbon through the metal piece. Thread the locking mechanism arm through the correct hole on the housing and slide the lock into place. Secure the LCD screen into the housing with the two screws you removed earlier.

    • 16

Connect the LCD screen housing and the top plastic housing with the ribbon you unclipped. Slide the LCD housing into the top housing until it clicks shut. Secure with the two screws you removed in a previous step. Continue reassembling your Motorola Z3, including reattaching all ribbons and securing all screws you removed during this process.
