- 1). Turn the computer off and disconnect all the cables from the back of the computer.
- 2). Lay the computer on its right side and remove the screws on the left side to open the left side panel.
- 3). Remove the cooling system either by unscrewing it or by turning the black latches counterclockwise.
- 4). Rotate the cooling system to separate it from the processor. Do not pull straight up as you might dislodge the processor from the socket and damage it.
- 5). Open the socket and remove the old processor. Insert the new processor in its place and close the socket down.
- 6). Clean the contact plate of the cooling system with alcohol until mirror-like.
- 7). Put a dab of thermal past on the processor the size of half a pea. Use a credit card or something equivalent to spread the paste evenly on the processor surface.
- 8). Put the cooling back in place and secure it. Make sure the cooling system is not moving. Close the case and reconnect all the cables.
- 9). Do not force it out If you are having trouble removing the cooling system, as you might damage the processor. Turn the computer on and wait a few minutes for the processor to heat up and soften the bond between itself and the cooling system. Turn the computer off and try to remove the cooling system again.
