How to Stay Warm

    • 1). Breathe. A stressed out body's breathing becomes shallow and oxygen intake decreases. Without sufficient oxygen, we start to feel cold.

    • 2). Eat high energy foods that give your body the fuel it needs to produce heat. Complex carbohydrates are a better choice, provide a steady source of energy and prevent the "spike-and-dip" in glucose levels brought on by simple carbohydrates.

    • 3). Wear multiple layers to trap body heat. Wool and down are excellent natural products for keeping warm.

    • 4). Pack a lightweight "space" blanket when traveling out of the country. Many hotels and hostels are not heated, and often transportation isn't either.

    • 5). Pack a sweater, sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirt and a jacket or down vest instead of a single, heavy coat. You can layer to suit the temperature.
