Developed by Dr. Elson M. Haas, the False Fat Diet addresses the bloating and swelling people wrongly perceive as body fat. False Fat occurs when people consume the wrong foods, causing an onslaught of symptoms that make people look and feel unhealthy. The False Fat Diet forbids consumption of seven foods, known as the Sensitive Seven, representing the most common food allergies in the United States. - Lactose is the main sugar found in dairy and dairy products, such as cow's milk. However, approximately 70 percent of the world's population is lactose intolerant. These people lack adequate amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose in the gut. As a result, lactose cannot be absorbed into the intestine. Bacteria attack the lactose, leading to fermentation and the production of gas. This explains why some lactose-intolerant people experience pain, bloating and diarrhea when consuming dairy products.
- A common allergy, consuming wheat may lead to hives, respiratory problems, swelling of the mouth and throat, watery eyes, diarrhea and nausea for those who are intolerant to the grain. In extreme cases, wheat allergy causes anaphylaxis, which can be fatal. Avoid bread, cake, muffins, cereal, pasta, crackers, beer, soy sauce and certain meat products, including hot dogs, to avoid negative reactions to wheat.
- Egg intolerance causes rashes, hives, vomiting, congestion, asthma and anaphylaxis. Avoid egg yolks, egg whites, eggnog and foods containing egg protein. Other foods that may contain eggs include cake icing, fancy creams, seasonings, baked goods, ice cream, yogurt and even some medications, including the flu shot.
- As one of the most common allergies in the United States, peanut allergies often cause severe, and sometimes fatal, reactions in those who are allergic to the nut. Found in many foods, including candy, peanuts have many names. Avoid foods listing ground nuts, beer nuts and monkey nuts in the ingredients. Also beware of peanut-free foods processed in a facility that handles peanuts because those items may have come into contact with peanuts during handling.
- Found in many processed foods, consuming corn can lead to vomiting, headaches and rashes. Corn exists in a variety of forms, including corn syrup in sodas and fruit drinks, which causes tooth decay and high blood sugar.
- Consuming cane sugar results in dangerous blood sugar fluctuations. Also known as sucrose, cane sugar is the white, sugar crystals processed in factories and prevalent in the majority of processed foods. Sugar compromises the immune system, making it difficult for the body to fight off diseases. Worse, too much sugar leads to type 2 diabetes, a preventable disease that can lead to amputations and heart attacks.
- Soybeans and soy are prevalent in baked goods, cereal, crackers, canned tuna and even infant formula. They can be difficult to avoid, considering they exist in many processed foods.
