- Established in 1921, Mexicana was one of the world's oldest airlines before its demise. The airline was established by three U.S. investors, Lloyd A. Winship, Harry J. Lawson and Elmer C. Hammond.
- The majority of the Mexicana Airlines fleet at the time it ceased operations was made up of Airbus liners. Airbus airplanes made up 105 of the 146 passenger airplanes in Mexicana's fleet; 67 of these were Airbus A320 planes, according to Air Fleets.
- Mexicana Airlines operated 15 Boeing aircraft, made up of 757s and 767s. The airline also operated 10 McDonnell Douglas DC-10s and 16 Fokker 100 aircraft.
