In deciding what type of aircraft to buy, you need to check first the original piper Cherokee 160. The Cherokee aircrafts are still the popular four seated planes in the market.
There is some confusion about the Cherokee 140. Most people thought it was the first model but in fact the first model was the Cherokee 150 and later on the smaller aircraft Cherokee 140 was created just to complete the Cherokee collection. Another source of confusion about these two aircrafts is their engine's horsepower. The Cherokee 140 has a horse power of 150 but the Cherokee 160 has 160 horse power. A 6% difference in power but will give you the extra push and speed while in cruise.
So what is it with Cherokee 160 that is great to buy? There are airplanes that are much bigger compared to Cherokee 160 but not all people really want to fly with high wing airplanes. Even though these bigger airplanes sure look nice and can carry a lot of stuff but you need to realize that the Cherokee 160 can do the same too.
These Cherokee airplanes are still the direct competition of the Cessna 172 and 182 in some ways. The Cherokee 150 was the first Cherokee that was made in 1961 and then the rest of the models followed but actually the rest of the models were only to show the difference of horse power of each Cherokee model. The last one that was built was the Cherokee 140.
In performance specifications regardless of the model, the usual cruise speed would be around 110 knots to 125 knots. The spare parts of these planes are easy to find and you can find many reliable mechanics for Cherokee planes.
The only problem is deciding what type of Cherokee you want; the small wing Cherokee or the high wing Cherokee but most pilots prefer the low wing Cherokees over the high wing Cherokee planes. It is true that in the high wing you can have a really better view of what is below while in flight but with low wing models the cabin has a different feel and somewhat easier to land.
These Cherokees are still very popular. They have been in the industry for over 50 years. It means if a situation arises that you need to sell your Cherokee there will be a lot of buyers. You can still sell the Cherokee 160 with a really good price.
These planes are in demand because of their quality and use. Most owners will keep their Cherokee 160 for a very long time and others might want to change to bigger airplanes. Most likely you will have fresh pilots that will try to use the plane for training purposes.
