- The ComposTumbler is composed of a drum on a stand with a crank-handle to turn the barrel. As the barrel turns, it thoroughly mixes the contents, allowing them to decompose quickly. A barrel of compost will decompose completely within approximately 14 days.
- To get a rich, black loamy compost, it is important to mix green and brown material in the ComposTumbler. Green matter is high in nitrogen. Examples include kitchen scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds and grass clippings. Brown materials are high in carbon. These include dead leaves, peat moss, pine needles and sawdust.
- Your green and brown matter will decompose faster if you chop it before adding it to the ComposTumbler. Additionally, you should never place material with seeds in the compost, since the seeds might sprout.
