How to Calculate Theory Voltage

    • 1). Hook an ammeter to the circuit to determine the current entering the device. For instance, the unit may take in 10 amperes of current.

    • 2). Multiply the appliance's power rating, measured in kilowatts, by 1,000 to convert it to watts. For instance, if the appliance works at 1.15 kW: 1.15 --- 1,000 = 1,150.

    • 3). Divide the power rating by the current: 1,150 ÷ 10 = 115 volts. This, in theory, is the voltage acting on the circuit.
