Bollywood Has Got……. Moms!

Nargis did that role once and became famous as €Mother India€ but in Hindi cinema there are many actresses who have represented and are representing the mothers in India. If you see mothers with the eyes of Hindi cinema, an Indian mother either will be always be a giving and sacrificing woman like Nirupa Roy or always conspiring and making schemes to torture their daughters-in-law like Lalita Pawar or Bindu. These are some actresses of Bollywood who are known for portraying the negative image of Indian Mother.

Nirupa Roy- She is one of the most famous Bollywood mothers. She was known as €queen of misery€ and had worked for more than 50 years in Bollywood industry. She started her career as lead actress in the year 1946 but after the blockbuster movie €Deewar€ in 1975 she became synonymous of a suffering mother in Hindi Cinema. She did many blockbuster movies with Amitabh as his mother and even her last movie also was with Amitabh. When it comes to play the role of a sacrificing and suffering mother she was the ultimate choice no matter if the role of the son is played by Dharmendra or Sunny Deol.

Lalita Pawar- She is known as mother of all €mothers-in- law€. Lalita Pawar started her career in 1916 at the age of nine. She did more than 700 movies and in most of them she had played the role of envious, jealous, and conspiring mother-in- law or rude and strict mother. If Nirupa Roy is the divine form of Indian mother she is known as the evil form of mothers and mothers-in-law.

Bindu- This beautiful actress had worked in Hindi film industry for four decades. She was one of the holy trinity of item queens of Bollywood; the other two being Aruna Irani and Helen. She has often done the role of cabaret dancer and vamps. Apart from these roles, in the latter half of her acting career she did the roles of cruel mother in law. She is again one of the best negative forms of Bollywood mothers.

Farida Jalal- Farida Jalal is today's mom. She often plays the role of nice mothers and naughty grandmothers. She started her career in 1960 when she was discovered through United Film Producers' €Talent Hunt€ program, which was sponsored by Filmfare. She is also playing role of grandmothers in many TV serials. She is indeed one of our favorite mothers in Bollywood. Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge are some of the movies for which she has won Filmfare Awards.

Rakhi- Rakhi Gulzar started her career in 70's and instantly became a famous name through the movie €Jeevan Mrityu€. She gave many blockbuster movies as a lead actress during the first half of her acting career. After mid-80's and during 90's she started appearing as elderly mother and almost all of these movies were successful. Her most notable movies in which she played the role of mother are Ram Lakhan, Baazigar, Khalnayak, Karan Arjun, Border, Soldier and Baadshah.

Kiran Kher- She is the most gorgeous mother of today's Bollywood. It can only be Kiran Kher to play the role of a mother who can dance on her misery when she finds her son is a gay (song €Munda sada€ from movie Dostana). Hum Tum, Rang De Basanti, Om Shanti Om, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Dostana and Sing is King are some of her most notable movies in which she had played the role of a bubbly Punjabi mother.
