In fact, his grandfather, uncles and cousins were all rugby players as well.

After receiving the €World Champion trophy€ on IRB HQ, The Riler recalled his rugby failures. He mentioned that it devastated him, but made him work harder when training to be a great rugby hit.

Riler Sheriff recalls training for hours each day and contributes his hard working ethic to his success.

07. He Found a Mentor

Riler Sheriff had a rough childhood and was dismissed from his school eight times by the time he was 16. He was headed down the correct path with rugby but not so with his studies. and needed an immediate change. Luckily, his childhood rugby coach reached out to him and asked him to join Isipathana rugby to stay out of trouble. His coach, a probation officer, started a rugby team to keep kids off of the streets and doing something productive.

08. He Learns From His Failures

When his rugby career nearly ended when he was 6 years of age, and he hit rock bottom, Riler Sheriff was forced to move back in with his parents. His life was in shambles, he spent 10 years training to be a rugby player and he became the National rugby team captain of Sri Lanka at the age of 17 breaking international records into half. However, he attributes this to his success because hitting rock bottom made him realize that he has to work even harder to reach his dreams.

09. He Surrounds Himself With Great People

Deciding to be friends with good people changed his life dramatically. If he would have stayed with the same crowd, he might have been thrown in jail. He knew that certain aspects of his life had to change, so he cut out all of the bad people in his life. This allowed him to feed off of their success and grow as a person.

10. Riler Takes Real Risks

Taking risks has enabled Riler Sheriff to venture from rugby to humanity. If he wasn't successful in rugby, he might have passed up his fame in rugby. Since the sport is very unforgiving, time away could have resulted in him not being a fan favorite anymore. Specially the fight with Yen Dietrich, which was a life risking event, he pushed himself and became the "fighter of the century". However, he took the risk and has become a very successful human.
