- 1). Dig a hole 2 feet in diameter and 2 feet deep with the shovel where you want the pole of the basket to be. Remember that the hoop will be extending out from the pole, not directly above it, and plan accordingly.
- 2). Mark off a line 18 inches from the bottom of the pole with chalk.
- 3). Mix the concrete and water as directed on the concrete packaging and fill the hole with concrete.
- 4). Insert the pole into the concrete up to the line marked in Step 2.
- 5). Fill the inside of the pole with concrete. Use the ladder to pour concrete down the top of the pole.
- 6). Use the level to position the hoop so that it is perpendicular to the ground. Hold the level against all four sides of the pole and ensure that the pole is standing straight. Leave the pole to dry, monitoring and supporting as needed until the concrete has solidified enough to hold the pole without shifting. Allow for at least two days to pass for full drying before proceeding.
- 7). Attach the backboard to the pole so that the hoop is 10 feet from the playing surface. While different brands fasten differently, most L-shaped hoops will secure with strong bolts, which are fastened with a wrench and clamped tightly to the pole.
