- 1). Draw a symmetrical basket shape on a piece of paper, slightly smaller than a semicircle. Cut out the paper template. Place it on a piece of plywood and draw around it. If you are making more than one basket, simply move the template and trace another until you are finished. Cut out the shapes using the jigsaw.
- 2). Wear protective goggles and gloves. Then using the wire cutters, roughly cut out a piece of chicken wire in a size to fit the plywood, allowing plenty of extra to wrap around behind the wooden shape, as well as allowing sufficient wire to make a pocket on the front. Cut a piece of burlap to fit the size of the chicken wire.
- 3). Wrap the plywood. Cut a piece of burlap that is large enough to wrap around the plywood. Wrap it around one face of the plywood and staple it in place on the back, tucking the edges of burlap underneath neatly as you work. The stapled side will be inside the back of the basket.
- 4). Fold the extra burlap under in one long edge to form a neat hem Fold it over a second time. Fold the raw edge of one of the long sides of the chicken wire around the folded edge of the burlap to produce a neat and tidy rolled hem which will be the top edge of the basket.
- 5). Shape the burlap and chicken wire into a pocket of the desired size on the front face of the plywood. (The one not completely covered with burlap). The bare plywood will be inside the basket and therefore concealed by the plants.
- 6). Secure the pocket in place by stapling the edges of the burlap and wire on the wooden shape. Keep placing your hand inside the pocket as it is shaped to ensure an even, symmetrical shape.
- 7). Trim away excess burlap and chicken wire. Staple the ends of the length of wire to the back corners of the basket to make a loop for hanging the planter on the wall.
