Relationships are hard enough, so adding distance to the picture only makes it harder. Couples committed to making their long distance relationship work will need to remember to keep the lines of communication open. Staying in contact as much as possible will help to make the distance not feel so bad. Since they can't see each other all the time, long distance couples have to come up with creative ways to express their love. - There's nothing more romantic than a heartfelt, handwritten love letter. The recipient will appreciate that you took the time to hand write the letter when you could have easily typed it and sent it as an email. Write about how you feel for your significant other and plans for when you are together again.
- Make a CD playlist of all the songs that remind you of your significant other and mail it to him. He will be able to play the CD in the car wherever he goes and think of you. He can also play it at night as he is going to sleep to remind him of you.
- You will need a computer with a video camera and a video phone program such as Skype. You can download Skype for free and video chat with anyone, anywhere. Set up a special time so that you and your loved one can have a date through video chat. Prepare each other's favorite meals, and sit in front of the computer and talk to each other as you would on any date.
- Create a calendar on your computer has pictures of you in every box until the day you will see each other again. Or you can send her a desk calender with a note written on each box counting down until the day you will see her again. The notes can say things like "31 more days until I can kiss you" or "15 days until I get you all to myself". The calendar will help build anticipation for the next time you two see each other.
