- 1). Keep it light. A massive stack of books is hardly a good look. Limit the books on your side table to no more than three or four light volumes. If you wish to display thicker books, use even fewer as you don't want an overly tall stack of titles.
- 2). Consider the color. Though you may not be able to judge a book by its cover, you should take the color of the cover into consideration when dressing up your side table. Seek books with attractive covers featuring hues that complement your space to ensure that they serve as a positive addition.
- 3). Stick with a theme. If you are a fan of flowers, gather several titles about beautiful blooms. Similarly, if you are a history buff, gather some history texts. By keeping to a common theme, you can create continuity in your display.
- 4). Stack your books by size. Don't create a precarious stack that appears destined to topple over. Instead, place your largest books on the bottom and get smaller as you move up the stack. Arranging your books in this manner not only makes the stack more visually appealing, but also reduces the likelihood that your books fall from the table.
- 5). Top the stack with an accent piece. If your stack isn't an overly tall one, dress it up by placing a small -- and thematically-appropriate -- accent atop it. For example, top your stack of books about the stars with a metal star statue, tying your entire display together.
