Focusing on our goals is one sure way to exercise the power we have. Doing this is hard because of the many distractions that abound. There are many things that can make someone become sidetracked and an example is doubts of our ability to transform our life situations.

The reasons that can lead us to not achieving our goals are many but it is important to ensure that they do not affect us. You can prevent doubting your abilities by focusing harder on what you want to get. It is also important to ensure that you know the difference between the voices that tell you that success is impossible and those that tell you that is it possible to succeed. If you have a desire to succeed, you can face new challenges better, dream big and be able to experience your desires.

One unfortunate thing that happens at times is the lack of doing what you feel in your heart and this brings about stagnation. You may feel that concentrating on your children's needs is very important and this may make you feel that attaining the level of career success you want is not very important. You may have the feeling that it is better to keep your job instead of seeking to achieve your dreams since you have the comfort of frequent paychecks that make it possible for you to support your family.

Alice faced such a situation and she got sidetracked by the fact that she was afraid that caring for her children would be hard if she focused more on her career. She had been notified that a layoff was coming in a years time and this affected her career change plans. She wanted to change her career from being an accountant into being a marketing and sales professional. Her reaction to the news was to find an accounting position in another company because she was afraid of losing her income especially considering the fact that she was a single mother.

The number of years that Alice had worked with this company is thirteen. Following the announcement, I spoke to Alice enquiring from her on the approach she would use to look for a new job. She informed me that her boss had asked her to seek out accounting positions in certain divisions of the company and in outside companies. Alice did so and she even received permission to take days off so that she could attend interviews.

I have also suggested to her that she take evening classes in marketing at a near by college and participate in meetings held by a sales company in the local area. She is committed to doing this. Alice has received helpful encouragement from her friends and she is now focusing on ensuring that she attains her career goals.
