It wasn't too long actually between Josh's set and George Strait's appearance on the stage. Per norm, he entered with a background theme of "Deep in the Heart of Texas" as he waved to the crowd and took his first position for the first of what would be a long night of hit after hit after hit.
He started out the show with "Honk If You Honkytonk," flowing into "Oceanfront Property," "The Fireman," and "I Hate Everything."
Dressed in a red, white and blue checked long sleeved shirt and jeans, with trademark black hat, George traversed the stage from corner to corner, singing four songs in each before moving on.
One good thing about a George Strait concert is that you know that you're going to be able to sing along with nearly every song. I think out of the over 20 songs that he performed, I only didn't know one of them.
Another thing that I like about Strait's shows is the graphics that go along with the music. He's not an artist known for making videos, and occasionally they will show a video along with his performance, like during "Seashores of Old Mexico," but other times it's just relevant images, like when he performed "Texas," and images of various Texas places were shown on the screen. Very nice. It's not overwhelming. He doesn't have to cover you in confetti, and jump all over the stage to entertain. Some people complain that he just stands there. Yes, he does pretty much just stand in one general place for the duration of his songs, but when you have songs like "Check Yes or No," "The Chair" "Cowboys Like Us," "Give It Away," "Amarillo by Morning," "It Just Comes Natural," and "Heartland," you don't need anything other than the great music.
Even with singing over 20 songs, you may be disappointed that he didn't sing your favorite song. Hey, with over 50 Number One songs, plus countless other favorites, he couldn't possibly cover everything in one night. But, just getting to hear everything live is something I'm so glad that I've been able to do several times, and I hope to get to do many more times. George is timeless. He chooses songs that fit him, and that is why his songs become No. 1 hits. He's more than earned the title "The King of Country Music."
