- Certification in safety risk management ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. The National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) provides classroom-based and distance learning OSHA-compliant training courses. A general course and a construction industry course are available.
- Some risks are industry-specific, personnel need specialized training. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Workplace Health and Safety website provides extensive information and resources by industry and topic, ranging from agriculture to workers with developmental disabilities. The Nonprofit Risk Management Center offers training for a broad range of risk management topics for nonprofit organizations, including youth, volunteers, sports and recreation facilities.
- The National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) offers a certified safety manager course for $1,895 (as of 2010). There are no course entrance prerequisites and candidates may retake the final exam up to three times. The course covers general business and industry safety, and certifies students as safety auditors with specialist courses in hazard analysis, safety inspections and accident investigation techniques. This certificate shows employers the holder is a skilled professional, able to work in all industries.
