How to Treat Driftwood for Aquarium Use

    • 1). Scrub the driftwood as thoroughly as possible. Be sure to remove any adhered debris and dirt. Don't use soap or other cleaning agents, as they can introduce poisons into your tank.

    • 2). Place the driftwood in a large pot with enough water to cover it completely. Boil for two hours.

    • 3). Leave the driftwood in the pot and allow it to soak for one to two weeks. As the water darkens, rinse the wood in clean water and replace the water in the pot.

    • 4). Once the driftwood is completely waterlogged (it sinks) and the water has remained relatively clear for several days, the wood can be placed in the aquarium.
