Here are some tips to help you quit:
  1. Pick a target date to quit, tell your family and friends that you are quitting, then two weeks before you quit, switch brands to one you don't like and keep changing brands every few days.
  2. Make it as inconvenient to smoke as possible by getting rid of ashtrays, matches, and lighters.
    When you go out, spend as much time in areas where smoking is prohibited and associate with people who do not smoke.
  3. Pay attention to your appearance.
    Have your teeth cleaned by a dentist.
    Exercise regularly and keep busy with activities that make it difficult to smoke.
  4. Drink lots of liquids, but no alcohol or coffee if you associate those drinks with smoking.
  5. Keep a pen, pencil or straw in hand to hold in your hand.
    Chew on sugarless gum, sunflower seeds, apples, carrots, celery or pickles.
    Reward yourself for not smoking.
