Southern California is diverse, mysterious, charming, historical, and enchanting. There is no shortage of attractions nor lack of outdoor recreational opportunities in the San Diego area. For starters, there's the world famous San Diego Zoo, with its Wild Animal Park, and Sea World, the ever popular adventure park and marine attraction. For a choice family fun destination, plan on visiting beautiful Balboa Park, which has a zoo, gardens, theaters, museums, and outdoor activities all in one place.
On the ocean, another attraction worth a visit is Mission Bay Park, which has over 4000 acres of various outdoor recreation.
In the summer it's the great beaches that take the lead on the popularity poll. The City of San Diego Beaches have lifeguards on duty for your safety, and offer all of the beach activities you've become accustomed to seeing when we watch a California surf movie.
There are plenty of commercial RV parks and campgrounds along the southern California coast, but if you're looking for a more park-like ocean camping experience, set your sites on San Elijo State Beach, which has camping, swimming, surfing, picnicking, and a nearby reef popular with snorklers and divers, or South Carlsbad State Beach, which has camping, swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing, and picnicking. The beaches aren't the only camping destination popular in the San Diego area. For a breather, consider the campgrounds out of town in the national forests.
