Meditation to Help Fight Parkinson"s Disease

Parkinson's Disease affects movements like walking, talking and writing.
It is a loss of the nerve cells in the part of the brain called substantia Nigra which produces a chemical called DOPAMINE.
Dopamine sends messages to parts of the brain to co-ordinate movement.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that controls movement and balance, (a neurotransmitter is a messenger sent from one nerve cell to another).
In Parkinson's the cells of the Substantia Nigra degenerate and can no longer produce enough Dopamine.
A drug which is used to treat Parkinson's is called levodopa which the brain uses to make more dopamine.
Causes of Parkinson's are unknown however researchers have recorded factors as being Genetic and Environmental, genetic due to a gene called parkin and environmental being due to toxins like pesticides.
The Parkinson's Society advocates as well as traditional treatment methods for sufferers to try alternative therapies like Reiki, Massage, Reflexology, Hypnotherapy and Meditation to help with relaxation and stress relief.
