- 1). Determine exactly where you want to install the angle irons using the tape measure. Make pencil marks on the wall above the drapery rod where the angle irons will go. The angle irons should support the cornice at the proper height to conceal the drapery rod and the tops of the drapery panels.
- 2). Select angle irons large enough to support the weight of the cornice snugly against the wall or window frame. Two angle irons are sufficient for a single window cornice. Wider cornices may require additional support. Figure on one angle iron for every 36 inches of cornice width. Install the angle irons in the wall or window frame at the measured pencil marks with screws. Use molly screws or toggle bolts if installing in drywall.
- 3). Place the cornice on the angle irons and push it snugly against the wall or window frame. Secure the cornice to the angle iron with wood screws. Depending on the width and weight of the cornice, you may require a helper with a second ladder.
