Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda and Rwanda

Tracking these habituated and delightful apes is a memorable experience.
Closely related to humans than to any other living creature, chimpanzees gives tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees within their habitats.
Chimpanzees do not live in troops, but instead form extended communities of up to a hundred individuals, which move around the forest in small mobile sub-groups that often revolve around a few close family members like brothers, mothers and daughters.
Male chimps normally spend their entire life within the community in which they were born, whereas females are likely to migrate into a neighboring community at some point after reaching adolescence.
Chimpanzees can also be habituated and Visitors are allowed to spend more time with the chimps trying to imitate their behavior especially how they feed.
This is a fascinating activity that one should not miss out on.
Uganda offers around 5000 of these primates and these can be tracked in areas of Kibale forest and this park hosts more than 1450 chimpanzees representing the Uganda's largest population of these endangered primates, Queen Elizabeth National Park in the Kyambura gorge, Murchison Falls national Park at Kaniyo Pabidi.
Over 40 orphaned chimpanzees are also kept at Ngamba Island, located on Lake Victoria 23km south of Entebbe, Uganda.
It consists of approximately 100 acres, 98 of which are forested and separated from the visitors' area by an electric fence.
Ngamba Island was officially opened to visitors in October 1999.
Nyungwe forest National Park in Rwanda also hosts chimpanzee tracking and the population of chimpanzees here is about 500 individuals and thought to be confined to Nyungwe national park including a small community in the Cyamudongo Forest.
