- 1). Find the best position for your motion sensing outdoor light. The corners of your structure, over the garage or near an entrance are areas that can benefit from security motion lighting.
- 2). Mark the location on the facia of your roof overhang. Drill a 1/2-inch hole through the facia and into the attic.
- 3). Pull a length of 14/2 nonmetallic cable from your power source location through the attic and to your motion sensing outdoor light location. Push the cable through the hole drilled in the facia.
- 4). Thread the cable through the center hole on the back of a 5-hole round metal electrical box. Use the closure plugs provided with the metal box to close the other holes on the box.
- 5). Mount the round box on the facia using wood screws or anchors. Strip the insulation from the electrical cable to expose 3/4-inch of bare copper wire at the end of the black and white wires with a wire cutter/stripper.
- 6). Twist an orange wire connector onto the black wire from the motion sensing outdoor light, connecting it to the 14/2 NM electrical cable's black wire. Connect the white wire from the motion sensing light to the white wire from the cable. Twist a final wire connector onto the green wire from the motion light, connecting it with the bare copper wire from the electrical cable.
- 7). Attach the motion sensing outdoor light to the round metal electrical box using the screws provided with the light's mounting hardware. Adjust the lights to shine in the direction you want to illuminate when the fixture senses motion. Aim the motion sensor down toward the ground if you want motion detected closer to your structure. If you want to detect motion further from your structure, aim the motion detector higher.
- 8). Set the timer on the motion sensing outdoor light. The timer determines how long the lights remain on after the motion sensor detects motion.
