- 1). Contact local zoos and animal-education organizations such as the Oregon Zoo or Wildlife Safari. Zoos and other wildlife centers sometimes take rescued fancy pigeons to use in children's education programs because these birds are tame, easily handled and interesting to view.
- 2). Call your local animal shelter, SPCA or humane society to ask if they take in fancy pigeons. For example, the Oregon Humane Society is in Portland, Ore., and New Beginnings SPCA operates in Roseburg, Ore. AnimalShelter.org has a searchable list of all Oregon animal shelters.
- 3). Post an ad with one or all pigeon-fancier clubs that have Oregon-based members. Pigeon clubs in Oregon include the Central Pacific Pigeon Club and Northwest Pigeon Fanciers.
