- 1). First, select what medications or drugs will be included. It is unwise to include as a part of this kit any prescription drugs, since you can never be sure who might have access to the kit. Everything in the kit should be an over the counter substance. For this reason, the kit should include things such as ibuprofen, antacids, laxatives, anti-diarrhea pills, sore throat drops and a cough suppressant. You might also want to add antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream and an antihistamine.
- 2). Add any first aid tools and equipment that might be needed, such as absorbent dressings, gauze, adhesive bandages, tape and cotton swabs. You will also want to include a cold compress, a breathing mask for CPR, non-allergic gloves, a digital thermometer, tweezers and scissors.
- 3). The last part of the kit involves information. In the kit, or taped to the top, should be a list of important numbers such as the local emergency response number, campus security, student health services, the student's local doctor, local hospitals and the parents' home phone number. Finally, you should include basic instructions for using the kit, and these instructions should be reviewed well before the kit has to be used.
