Winter is one of the hardest seasons for your skin.
It suffers from cold bitterly winds and has to cope with the artificial heat from your home or work.
It is at times like this when your skin can feel drier and rougher than the rest of the year.
When temperatures drop to as low as minus 5 or in some parts of the country where temperatures as low as minus 10 were recorded, the daily 3 step skin care regime to cleanse, tone and moisturise might not be enough to beat winter skin blues.
Because skin does not produce essential oils to keep the skin moisturised throughout the day it is important that extra care is taken.
During winter switch to rich moisture products and invest in a skin-kind routine that is gentle and full of natural ingredients to lock those essential oils.
First step is to switch to creamy cleansers to help your skin hydrated your skin without drying it.
Once the weather starts to warm up, change to a lighter water-based cleanser to avoid leaving your skin greasy.
Step 2 of your 3-step skin care regime is toning.
Although most women will not be bothering with this step, it is a very important to add moisture to your skin.
Toning actually prepares the skin before moisturising by helping the skin absorb better and removing impurities to leave your skin refreshed throughout the day.
Look for toners with amino acid rich coral seaweed and plant derived collagen.
Moisturising will be the most important step to deliver vitamin goodness to your skin.
Don't use water-based moisturisers as they will not work during winter, leave these for summer.
Use oil-based moisturisers to provide your skin with the adequate oils, which your skin lacks to produce in cold seasons.
Look for day creams full of vitamin C, E and aloe vera to lock essential moistures and help the skin look smoother and refined.
Also use a rich night cream full of enriched vitamins to help hydrate your skin whilst you sleep.
As well as a strict skin care regime there are other factors that can help your skin during winter season like aiming for seven or eight hours or sleep.
It has been estimated that some 30% of Brits have serious trouble sleeping, that topped up with late night partying and stress at work can have a serious effect on your skin.
Get as much natural daylight as possible to obtain much-needed vitamin D and to boost your mood during these cold months but always make sure you wear at least SPF 15.
Make sure your foundation has at least SPF 15 too.
Winter might make you reach for unhealthy comfort food so try to have a balance diet by aiming for your 5 a day and remember the best way to hydrate your skin is to drink plenty of water.
