One of the exciting Spanish cities to visit is Barcelona which is also the capital of Catalonia. Barcelona is also the second largest city in Spain situated at the northeastern side of the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea next to the Pyrenees Mountains.Barcelona has over 1.5 million residents with a diverse culture and traditions. Barcelona was originally known as Barcino after Hamilcar Barca who was a Carthaginian ruler. The Romans came at 1BC with the Visigoths arriving at 5 A.D. while the Moors made their appearance in 8 A.D.Catalonia grew in leaps and bounds from counties to territories before becoming a recognized Community in Spain. Barcelona, as part of Catalonia, became more and more important during the Industrial Revolution at 19th century.

Catalonia became powerful in its political power that also poised Barcelona to an elevated position of importance in Spain.Barcelona's international standing came when it hosted the Olympic Games in 1992 successfully; subsequent international hosting established Barcelona as a renowned cultural and business center. Modern development took place with the tall buildings and organized housing.

Some of the attractions in Barcelona include its €La Rambla€ avenue in the city center and its famous Catalunya Square which stretches to the Old Port and Mediterranean Sea.Barcelona has excellent beaches which are popular holiday destinations for the locals and European tourists with a pleasant climate of temperature between 10-25 degrees Celsius during the winter and summer respectively.There is so much to do and see while holidaying in Barcelona. There are impressive historical monuments such as the Holy Family cathedral, the astounding Sagrada Familia, Park Gell and many others.

There is plenty to experience after sunset in Barcelona. The nightlife is vibrant with plenty of pubs and bars that serve drinks and snacks with many restaurants serving delicious local cuisine.
