If you've been in this business of Internet Marketing for any length of time you have probably heard the term, long tail keywords.
Long tail keyword research is an important part of any article research and more broadly any research for those that want to be found on the web.
You've probably wondered about it and how it can help you in the Google search results.
Not so long ago search results were displayed with just one keyword and after typing that keyword into a box on a search engine you received results, pages and pages of results.
Generally, these results were very broad and not specific to what people were looking for.
You had to dig through pages of information just to find what you were looking for.
Search engines have come a long way in providing pinpointed results that give the user pretty much exactly what they're looking for.
Users have gotten savvier and have learned to be more specific in their searches and these words or phrases they type in are called long tail keywords.
They are actually several keywords linked together to form a phrase and this is what we, as Internet marketers, want to target in our marketing campaigns.
The more targeted we are with our long tail phrases, the more likely we will be able to rank in the top 10 and get traffic.

My broad topic, skin care for women over 50 can be broken down further into long tail keyword phrases if we research this in a keyword tool.
There are some great free tools out there like Google AdWords Tool and SEObook tool and a few excellent tools like the Wealthy Affiliate keyword tool that go above and beyond in finding the best of the best long tail keywords.
After entering skin care for women over 50, I would get many more ideas for topics to write articles on like dry skin care for women over 50 and anti aging serums for women and so on.
The key is to be specific, target your audience and look for creative phrases that don't already have a ton of competition.
Keyword research tools are the best way to find out what your customers are looking for and how they're finding it.
Long tail keywords help you hone in on your market and give them what they want.
