Instead of a single wall hanging or piece of art, buy multiples of the same item for a more interesting display that fills up more wall space. You can buy multiple mirrors, pictures, decorator plates or other home decor items in the same color and style. Or you can buy the same item in different colors and different styles for a more eclectic flair. Display the items in a straight line or any other arrangement that fits the wall space available. - You can embellish frames with floral sprays.Thinkstock/Comstock/Getty Images
Picture frame embellishments can take a plain mirror or piece of art from bland to beautiful. Instead of hanging a piece of art with a plain frame, try adding materials above, below, to the side or all around the object to create an interesting focal point.
You can add floral sprays, fancy ribbons, strings of pearls, raffia bows, wood emblems or molded scroll work. Use anything that coordinates with the piece of art you're hanging and the other furnishings in the room. - Mount your art on scroll bars instead of a traditional picture frame for display.Jupiterimages/liquidlibrary/Getty Images
Try using a scroll display as an alternative to a picture frame for mounting your artwork on the wall. You can wrap fabric or canvas artwork around a round dowel at both ends as your display in place of a traditional frame. If your piece doesn't lend itself to wrapping it around a dowel, mount it on a plain sheet of paper -- leaving space on the top and bottom to mount on the scroll bars. - Use shelving to display your art instead of hanging it.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
A simple, but interesting way to display a picture is to set your piece on a wall shelf and lean it against the wall instead of hanging it. You can beef up the dimension and texture of the display if you combine your picture with other objects on the shelf.
Make it even more interesting by adding additional shelves with coordinating items above or below the artwork to fill more wall space.
